John Le Conte
(1818 - 1887)
John Le Conte opened his own engraving business in 1845. Best known for his Old Edinburgh buildings John Le Conte was a prolific artist, which provides an historical account of how Edinburgh once looked in the nineteenth century. John Le Conte has been acknowledged as one of the top engravers in Scotland from that period.
Bull's Close Cowgate c1868
Bull's Close could be found of the Cowgate at South Grey's Close. It is no longer there as most was knocked down in the Edinburgh Improvements Acts

Samuel Duckenfield Swarbreck
1830-1865
Samuel Swarbreck became famous for his Scottish scenes which he published in 1839. He had a portfolio of a set of 26 lithographs under the title Sketches in Scotland.
He is still popular for his paintings and prints of Edinburgh.
